A native of New Jersey, Dr. McGowan graduated with High Distinction from the Pennsylvania State University. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in 2006, and his Internal Medicine residency at Brown University in Providence, R.I. where he served as Chief Medical Resident.
Dr. McGowan completed his Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship training at UNC Chapel Hill. During his fellowship, he received advanced training in epidemiology and clinical research methodology, culminating in a Masters of Science in Clinical Research from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Dr. McGowan has published numerous first-author manuscripts in leading GI medical journals. His clinical interests include the full breadth of digestive disorders, including peptic ulcer disease, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, colorectal cancer screening and functional GI disorders.
